01 -
In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.
02 -
Stir in the salt, vegetable oil, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.
03 -
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, knead the dough with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for 5 minutes.
04 -
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
05 -
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until it has risen about 1 inch above the edge of the pan.
06 -
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
07 -
Remove from the pan and let the loaf cool on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
