Sparkle Sweetheart Valentine Cookies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Cookie Base

01 - 3 cups (375g) plain flour
02 - 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
04 - 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
05 - 2 ounces (57g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
06 - 1 cup (200g) white sugar
07 - 1 large egg, not cold
08 - 2 teaspoons natural vanilla extract
09 - 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

→ Topping

10 - 3/4 cup (150g) red and pink sparkle sugar
11 - 32 chocolate hearts, wrappers removed

# Instructions:

01 - Stir flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Put aside.
02 - Mix butter and cream cheese till fluffy. Add sugar and beat until light. Drop in egg and both extracts. Fold in dry mix until just combined.
03 - Wrap dough and cool in fridge 30-60 minutes. For longer chilling, let dough warm up 30 minutes before you start working with it.
04 - Heat oven to 350°F. Put parchment on cookie sheets. Pour sparkle sugar into a small dish.
05 - Make 1-tablespoon balls of dough, roll in sparkle sugar. Arrange on sheets and press down lightly. Cook 12-13 minutes.
06 - Push a chocolate heart into each hot cookie. Cool in fridge briefly to harden chocolate. Let cookies cool all the way.

# Notes:

01 - You'll need at least 30 minutes for dough cooling
02 - You can freeze these ahead of time
03 - Skip almond extract if needed, but it adds nice flavor
04 - They'll stay fresh for a week when stored properly
